Ranking NFL uniforms from worst to first

Written by Shane Clemons on .

With the switch to Nike this offseason, NFL uniforms got an update (especially the Seahawks). That combined with this Sunday's re-introduction of the Jaguars' all-black uniforms provides us with a perfect opportunity to rank all the uniforms in the NFL from worst to first.

32) Cleveland Browns: When designing something, really anything, who decides to go with brown and orange? This uniform has always been ugly. The Browns do get credit for sticking with it though.

31) Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks were the only NFL team to get a major update when the NFL switched to Nike. While I don't mind their away jerseys, their home uniforms are awful. I never thought I'd like the seaweed green over anything, but even that would be an improvement.

30) Cincinnati Bengals: It's always hard to make stripes work, and the Bengals fail to pull them off. In my mind, there's just too much going on here.

29) Tennessee Titans: The Titans' logo is unattractive, and their colors is blue on blue. It's just ugly.

28) New Orleans Saints: Call me crazy, but the Saints' uniforms are just boring. Black and gold works well together, but you have to do something with it first.

27) New York Jets: Green and white isn't a terrible combination, but the big logo on their helmets lacks creativity. Frankly, the old logo looked ten times better. Shame on the Jets for changing it.

26) Minnesota Vikings: It's not that the look is hideous overall; my problem is that their primary color is purple. Case in point, purple isn't exactly a fear inspiring color.

25) Kansas City Chiefs: Red, white and gold just doesn't work for me. To top that off, the uniforms are very plain.

Michael Spurlock is a good signing

Written by Shane Clemons on .

Although nothing is official yet, Laurent Robinson probably won't play against the Bears this weekend, creating a need for a wide receiver. To fill that gap, the Jaguars have added Michael Spurlock.

Spurlock is a good signing, not because of his receiving prowess, but because he is a solid special teams player.

It's unclear whether Spurlock will stick with Jacksonville (probably not), but by adding him, the Jaguars added to their special teams stable, as well as bringing in a receiver that may make a play or two.

Spurlock's claim to fame came in 2009 when he returned a kickoff for a touchdown for the first time in the Buccaneers' history. You can see that play below.

Tarp removal illustrates smart business

Written by Shane Clemons on .

The Jaguars don't look like a very good football team right now, but at least the business side of the team seems to have it together.

Jaguars president Mark Lamping announced today that the Jaguars are uncovering section 403 for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.

Five biggest mistakes in Jaguars history

Written by Shane Clemons on .

The Jaguars are once again looking like a team with no identity and no national following. It's at times like this that we have to wonder, what went wrong? Now, I'll try to answer that very question. Here's your list of the Jaguars' five biggest mistakes -- ever.

5) Hiring Gene Smith: Right now, it's hard to argue against this pick on the list. Since taking over, the Jaguars have, arguable, gotten even worse than the mess that he has been attempting to pick up since early 2009. As it stands, the Jaguars have no franchise quarterback, no offensive playmakers (save for MJD, a pre-GM Gene era pick) and no pass rush. Yeah, it's bad.

4) Drafting Derrick Harvey: Hindsight is always 20/20. This pick still burns me to think about. Harvey was a terrible player with little to no work ethic. He was the embodiment of the idea that the Jaguars were one player away. The falloff during the 2008 season was inevitable, but this pick made it hurt that much more.

Jaguars' black uniforms are ready for debut

Written by Shane Clemons on .

After much pushing by fans (including yours truly), the Jaguars are rolling out their all-black uniforms this weekend at home against the Chicago Bears. Thanks to @JaguarsInsider, we have a sneak peak below.

The uniforms won't make this team any better, but at least the Jaguars will play in style. If we're lucky, the new look will inspire some great play on the Jaguars part. The game starts at 4:05 PM EST on Sunday.

Gene Smith, Blaine Gabbert have 12 games to prove themselves

Written by Shane Clemons on .

I didn't want to acknowledge the possibility that Blaine Gabbert was a bust or Gene Smith could be fired before the season started, but at 1-3, it's time to address that issue.

Gene Smith took over as the Jaguars' head personnel man following the 2008 implosion. Since then, the best the Jaguars have done was a near divisional title two seasons ago. Now in his 4th season as the Jaguars general manager, we have to wonder, why isn't this team better?

It's possible to trace the Jaguars' problems back to Smith's hiring as the Jaguars' general manager. That was following the Jaguars' 2008 debacle, and the Jaguars decided to blow it up -- kind of. Jack Del Rio held on to his job, probably because the 2007 Jaguars had been such a solid team. David Garrard also retained his job as the team's starting quarterback.

Video: Jaguars mascot the highlight of the day

Written by Shane Clemons on .

On a day that the Jaguars were pretty terrible, their mascot was able to provide a little comic relief by catching a kickoff and giving us a little dance to follow it up. (H/T Big Cat Country)

The Jaguars went on to lose the game 27-10 after struggling offensively all day long. It would seem that Jaxson de Ville can catch as well or better than the receivers the Jaguars currently employ.
