Divisional Almanac: AFC West

I hope everyone had a great weekend, and it's time to get back to the business of predicting the AFC. Today, we're taking a look at the AFC West, a division that has been a thorn in the Jaguars' side in recent years, especially those games played on the west coast.

San Diego Chargers - (11-5)

I really expect the Chargers to bounce back from one of their most upsetting seasons. They had the number one ranked offense and defense, but they were never able to put it together. The 2010 season had to be considered a failure, but the Chiefs don't exactly have a choke hold on the division. We should be welcoming the Chargers back to the playoffs in 2011.

Is the End Near for Peyton’s Career?

Written by John McGrath on .

It has been confirmed that Peyton Manning WILL NOT participate in the preseason.  For the first time in 13 years he could actually miss regular season games if his rehab from surgery for a bulging disc in his neck isn’t addressed soon. Peyton has never missed a game in his entire NFL career, ever.  You’d have to go back to his freshman year in college to find the last game he has missed.  His current streak of consecutive games played stands at 208.  I’m a Jaguars fan & even I have to admit that those stats are impressive.  13 years is an amazing amount of time to never miss a game for a QB, hell for any NFL player period.  Could it be coming to an end?  Could the one player that continually is a pain in the neck for the Jaguars actually have his career ended by his own pain in the neck?

Divisional Almanac: AFC East

Today, we're looking at the AFC East. This another one of the best divisions in football, especially at the top end. The Bills have been rebuilding as long as any of us can remember, and the Dolphins seem to be having some problems figuring out who their quarterback will be in the future, not just in 2011.

New England Patriots - (12-4)

The Patriots have one of the best players in the game leading their offense, and that counts for a lot. It does seem as if this team has the ability to take players out and plug rookies in without a loss in production, but I think that's largely a function of their offense and Tom Brady. Their window may be closing (unless Mallett is the future).

Why the Jaguars Will Win the AFC South

After coming so close to winning the division last season the Jaguars look to be contenders again this year.  I know that the Colts are always considered the favorites (deservedly so), but I feel the Jaguars should have the advantage right out of the gate.  Let me explain by taking a closer look at all the AFC South teams to shed some light on the reason for my increasing confidence that Jacksonville will win the division.

COLTS:  Besides the mammoth contract that they'll have to pay Peyton Manning, thus preventing them from being able to sign or keep all their free agents, the biggest hurdle the Colts will be facing is the loss of Offensive Coordinator Tom Moore.  Moore leaves big shoes to fill.  Will the offense run as smoothly without Moore at the helm?  Injuries hit the Colts pretty hard last season.  RB Joseph Addai, WR Austin Collie & TE Dallas Clark all lost significant time due to injury.  Will they be able to return to the same level of play they’re used to?  If not, that’s a big part of Indy’s offense that could cause them to fall within the division.  Also, long time center Jeff Saturday is 36 and might be playing his last season.  LB Clint Session is a free agent & CB Melvin Bullitt & OG Charlie Johnson couldn’t seem to stay healthy.  Add to that the holdout of DE Robert Mathis and the Colts look like a team that has an uphill battle from the get-go.  All that being said, the Colts should never be counted out.  They will fight and they will contend, but they will ultimately finish 2nd in the AFC South.

Divisional Almanac: AFC North

This article gets our divisional almanac series started. Right now, I want to be sure to get the AFC done, but we may move on to the NFC at some point. The reasoning behind this series has multiple pieces. First, even if a CBA is figured out this week, free agency isn't expected to start for another week. This series will be a nice stop-gap to free agency. Finally, I'm going on vacation, and I can write and schedule these ahead of time. With that nice little intro, let's tackle the AFC North.

Pittsburgh Steelers - (13-3)

The Steelers are coming off of a Super Bowl run, and their team has some holes to fill. Their linemen are aging, but their is good news. Their offensive line couldn't get much worse than it was before hand, and the idea of them building a dominant line is rather terrifying. I expect them to win their division again.
