Giant scoreboards in Jacksonville could work well for the team, city

Written by Shane Clemons on .

The big news yesterday from the Jacksonville Jaguars was the announcement of their new logo set which will accompany their yet to be revealed uniforms. The teams is bringing a message of "re-birth" to the forefront this offseason, and part of that may include stadium upgrades for Everbank Field.

The big stadium upgrade this offseason could be the installation of new scoreboards in Jacksonville. More specifically, the proposed scoreboards would be the largest in the NFL, about 52 feet tall and 348 feet wide, costing $50 million according to team president Mark Lamping.

Should the Jaguars trade Maurice Jones-Drew?

Written by Michael Clinton on .

Is it a good idea for any NFL team to trade their best player? Typically no, but the situation the Jacksonville Jaguars and Maurice Jones-Drew face is anything but typical.

The star running back is in the final season of his contract and is coming off a season that began with a lengthy contract dispute and ended with foot surgery that kept him out for 10 games.

Maurice Jones-Drew has been the heart and soul of the Jaguars, and the most popular player as well, for the past few seasons but that doesn’t mean he is isn’t disposable – for several reasons.

Jaguars' first pick a question of necessity

Written by Shane Clemons on .

Jaguars general manager David Caldwell has been very transparent and upfront about the Jaguars' new draft strategy as they head towards the 2013 NFL draft in April. The Jaguars will draft for need at the top of the draft and possibly pick the "best available player" in the latter rounds of the event.

Under normal circumstances, there's a consensus top pick in the draft. The first team in the drafting order normally picks that player, leaving mock draft enthusiasts 31 teams to actually anticipate. That's not the case this season. For the first time in recent memory, there is no runaway top quarterback prospect for the top team, the Chiefs in this year's draft, to select.

With that in mind, it's difficult to determine what direction the Jaguars will go in the draft. If Geno Smith isn't picked first overall, it might be safe to assume the Jaguars would immediately take him off the board in an attempt to provide an answer to their quarterback problems.

On the other hand, if the Jaguars go in a different direction, or Geno Smith isn't available, will they go for a defensive end or an offensive lineman? That all depends on your perspective.

Tim Tebow not heading to Jacksonville according GM Caldwell

Written by Shane Clemons on .

Big news has been pouring out of Jacksonville in recent days. First, David Caldwell officially became the Jaguars' new general manager, then Mike Mularkey was officially dismissed from the team, and now Caldwell is taking on "Tim Tebow to Jacksonville" rumors in a great way.

"I can't imagine a scenario where he [Tim Tebow] would be a Jacksonville Jaguar," Caldwell said in his introductory press conference today.

And with that one sentence, David Caldwell said a number of different things about the way the Jaguars will be run moving forward. First and foremost, Caldwell isn't simply a yes man. Shahid Khan has shown great interest in Tim Tebow since becoming the Jaguars owner, even prompting former GM Gene Smith to make a run at trading for Tebow last offseason, but Khan won't be telling Caldwell what to do in regards to the Jaguars roster.

Season wrap: not a fun year for the Jaguars

Written by Shane Clemons on .

It's taken me too long to get motivated enough to type something up to wrap up this season. It just hasn't been fun. All the optimism surrounding this team just evaporated at the beginning of the regular season and a poor football team, and that's being nice, was all that was left.

The biggest story of the year was without a doubt Blaine Gabbert's lack of development. The hope was that he would progress as an NFL passer, and he looked pretty good at times during the preseason, but it didn't transfer to the regular season. He might survive the offseason, but it's unlikely he'll win back the starting job.

Andrew Strickert of Total Titans answers our questions

Written by Shane Clemons on .

To help round out our 2012 here at The Jaggernaut, Andrew Strickert of Total Titans agreed to answer some of our questions about the Titans and this weekend's game. If you'd like to see my answers to his questions, take a trip over to Total Titans and check it out. Once again, our thanks to Andrew and Total Titans.

The Jaggernaut: Obviously one of the big questions for the Titans involves the future of Mike Munchak. What's his chances of sticking around?

Total Titans: Owner Bud Adams will be 90 years old next week and I seriously doubt if he wants to fire Munchak and then wait three or four years for a new coach to turn things around.  Munch is reportedly a favorite of Bud's and I suspect he gets at least another year (he has two years remaining on his contract.)  I also suspect Adams will insist that Munch make some changes on his staff and it wouldn't surprise me if defensive coordinator Jerry Gray doesn't survive.

TJ: Have you seen enough from Jake Locker this season to believe he's the man in Tennessee over the long-term?

TT: No, I sure haven't, and much of what I have seen hasn't been good.  Lack of accuracy was a problem for Locker in college and remains so.  Hopefully, that will improve.  On the plus side, he has a rather strong arm, is mobile in the pocket and can make plays with his legs.

The Jacksonville Jaguars battle the Tennessee Titans in season finale

Written by Eddie Graham Jr. on .

The Jaguars (2-13) will play their final regular season game against the Titans (5-10) in Nashville on Sunday. This game will unfortunately be devoid of meaning and purpose when considering playoff contention. The only importance this game has for the two bland, uninspiring and vanilla (not even French vanilla but pure, vanilla-y, vanilla) teams taking the field is draft positioning.

The Jaguars can earn the first overall pick in the 2013 draft with a little help from the Kansas City Chiefs and/or the Denver Broncos (someone call former head coach Jack Del Rio and tell him to throw the Jaguars a bone by giving his defense a week off). Now, I’m not saying the Jaguars should throw the game in any form or fashion, but it is always nice to have a little assistance from outside sources. I’ll be honest in saying that I don’t really care what pick the Titans end up with. I actually hope they get all of their picks revoked for something stupid and illogical.
