I called this pick way back in December in my "missing link" article. I gave you all the pros about drafting Blackmon with the Jaguars first round selection. I have heard & read many nay-sayers dismissing Blackmon as the possible pick. There was no doubt in my mind that the Jags would get Blackmon, no matter what. They moved up 2 places to insure they got him before the Rams did. This is a HUGE pick for the Jaguars, GM Gene Smith, Blaine Gabbert & the true fans whom believe that this team is being built correctly & for long term winning.
no commentsThe big story of draft day for the Jaguars is yet another Gene Smith era trade up. This time, the Jaguars traded away the 7th pick and the 101st pick (4th rounder) to move up to the 5th overall pick. With that selection, the Jaguars made yet another step towards fixing their wide receiving corps in selecting Justin Blackmon.
Blackmon will add a great #1 option for Blaine Gabbert to throw to. On top of the Jaguars' other offseason acquisitions of Laurent Robinson and Lee Evans, the Jaguars will actually have a decent group of receivers in 2012. Now, Blaine Gabbert will have no excuses left in 2012, but that's a discussion for another day. For now, let this video appease you.
Despite Terrance Knighton's eye injury, he's still spending time with his team, and he's apparently in good spirits according to @JaguarsInsider.
Great to see Terrance Knighton in the building today hanging with teammates.Focused on recovery and is in great spirits.

I really enjoy reading and hearing about guys that are injured still coming in to work to help out in any way they can. Even if Knighton can't participate in his normal role, seeing him there must be reassuring for his teammates and coaches. Too often we hear and see players that don't put forth any type of real effort until they're fully healthy and fully ready to participate in their normal role. I'm a firm believer that players should treat their job as, well, a job and be there as often as possible even if they can't fully participate in the physical part. Hopefully this type of thing continues and isn't a one or two time thing. As always, we wish Potroast a quick and speedy recovery.
"People know Miami's going to take [Tannehill]," said Jaguars director of player personnel Terry McDonough on Pete Prisco's radio show Tuesday.
That's right. People do know that, or do they? The Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot at stake in promoting the already widespread belief that the Dolphins are set to take Ryan Tannehill. The Jaguars pick at 7th overall, just in front of Miami, and there's a significant chance that Justin Blackmon, a guy I think the Jaguars are hoping to pick, won't slide down far enough for the Jaguars to pull the trigger. If that's the case, the Jaguars will likely hope to trade down.
If you're not new to the Bloguin network, you may be familiar with Nate Dunlevy's work at 18to88.com or ColtsAuthority.com. You may not know that he is also the lead AFC South blogger at Bleacher Report. Here's Dunlevy's very cynical view of the Jaguars' best case scenario in 2012.
"The Jaguars are going to improve in the passing game in 2011. This should translate to more wins. The fact is that they can't actually get any worse. If Blaine Gabbert improves, fine. If he doesn't, Chad Henne takes over and that's still an improvement. If Henne wins the job out of training camp (which could happen despite Mike Mularkey's declaration that it isn't a competition) then I like the Jags for a seventh win."
Pete Prisco and Michael Lombardi don't agree on whether Blaine Gabbert can play well in the NFL, but Prisco dropped the last word in this video, and it may have been his best one-liner of all time.
"Two biggest myths in the league, Tim Tebow can play quarterback and Blaine Gabbert can't; keep an eye on that."
