Pressure, but no sacks

The Jacksonville Jaguars have played 2 preseason games so far & have tried many tactics to improve their pass rush.  They have used a heavy rotation at the DE position, which has resulted in more pressure on QBs.  They have also gotten a huge push up front by DT Tyson Alualu, who's power & speed has caused increased chaos in the backfield.  Running backs have been stuffed at or behind the line of scrimmage.  OBs have be flushed from the pocket or had passed knocked down at the line.  The added pressure up front has also resulted in more passes being hurried & off target, thus helping the secondary in pass coverage.  Linebackers are laying the wood on receivers as well.  Turnover opportunities are up as well. So with all this added pressure, why have the Jaguars registered zero sacks?

Quick Thoughts On the Colts, Texans, and Jaguars

Peyton_Manning_2Even Peyton Manning may not be invincible this season.

It's usually at this time of the year that we start talking about the possibility of a team in the AFC South de-throning the Indianapolis Colts. This year should be different. Sure, a different champion would be considered a "de-throning," but it wouldn't necessarily be a shocking development. Here's what Nate Dunlevy, writer of 18to88.com, had to say about the Colts this year:

"The article posed certain problems for me. On one hand, I don't necessarily disagree with Macey's assessment of the 2011 Colts as a whole. I think they are likely a 10 win team saddled with what could be a horrible defense. Obviously, if Manning doesn't play early in the year or is severely limited, that projection will drop."

To keep the quote in context, Dunlevy was talking about Football Outsiders' football almanac, which was critical of the Colts, especially their defense.

Is the Jaguars' Quarterback Situation a Three Horse Race?

Blaine Gabbert didn't help his chances of becoming the Jaguars' starter on Friday. No, he wasn't terrible, but he looked uncomfortable and fleet-footed at times. David Garrard wasn't much better. Garrard looked more comfortable, but he missed a potential touchdown to Marcedes Lewis, and he threw a very, very ugly interception that was intended for Mike Thomas.

There was one solid performance from a Jaguars quarterback though.

Observations From the Jaguars, Falcons Pre-Season Game

Written by Shane Clemons on .

There was a lot to like in the Jacksonville Jaguars week 2 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. I believe we got some answers to some buring questions, and if we didn't, we certainly moved closer to those answers. There's a lot of little things that happened that were very important, so; let's dive right into what I saw and thought about the game.

The most notable thing I saw was how improved the defense looked. Early on, the Falcons were able to have some success with draw plays up the middle, but that was later shut down. The only real offensive success the Falcons had all night was their 76 yard touchdown pass. Outside of that one botched play, the Jaguars were great. If I were giving a game ball, the defensive line would've got my vote.

the ROAR heard around the world

I'd like to talk about a subject that will bring a smile to the face of any teal-blooded, tried & true male Jaguars fan.  Of course, I'm talking about the Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleaders.  The ROAR has been around since 1995 when the team was first awarded to Jacksonville.  Every year new women try out for the ROAR roster & every year they get hotter & hotter.  They travel the world to make appearances every where from local high school to USO functions in support of all our great men & women of the armed forces.  They also have a very highly anticipated annual swimsuit calendar.  Talk about making us roar.  Every male Jags fan probally has a favorite ROAR girl......I know I do.
