Manning Out Indefinitely?

Written by Shane Clemons on .

Adam Stites at Big Cat Country is citing a report from an Indianapolis radio host that goes by JMV that Peyton Manning's neck injury may be worse than once thought. According to JMV, Manning has to have another neck surgery, and is out indefinitely. Combine that report with Jim Irsay's recent tweets (these compiled by Nate Dunlevy of 18to88):

"Weather forecast ever changing...ominous storm clouds gathering...it never rains under my umbrella....

There was the Rams-K Warner Sup year./ There was Patriot 2001-Brady Sup.year.--- Every year. is interesting n unpredictable in NFL!!!!

This ain't a dream no more...it's the real thing..give me a second, let me get it 2gether, just got 2 pick myself up off the floor

Got 2 code the darkness...prepare u 4 an alternative journey

No quarter?NONE ASKED!We made a promise,we swore we'd always remember,no retreat,no surrender;like soldiers in a winter's nite,a vow 2defend

Stampedblue and Jon Bauges/random or silly tweets,they r not..ur not hearing what I'm saying..riddle n codes r done4a reason,but it's there

It's BETWEEN the lines, you will find...what you can only find here"

Such a development certainly changes the dynamics of the division. I'll update this post as soon as I know more, if there's more to know.

Update: Bill Polian told SI's Peter King, "I don’t know anything about that. I honestly don’t,"

Update (10:25 PM): Via Adam Schefter on Twitter, "Filed to ESPN from : Peyton Manning is being revaluated by several doctors bc of slow progress. No other procedure planned now."

The Case for the Dark Horse, Luke McCown

Written by Shane Clemons on .

Luke_McCown

Luke McCown finally got a chance to work with the first team offense in a pre-season game. Really, it wasn't a true first team offense, but it was as close as he'll likely get the rest of the season. I'm disappointed that it took this long for him to get time with the first team, but he didn't waste it. After completing just 1 of his first 5 attempts, he led the Jaguars on a touchdown drive, ending the night 4 of 9 with 47 yards and a touchdown. Sure, that's not a jaw-dropping stat line, but he was more impressive than David Garrard, who was 1 of 5 with 11 yards. To be fair to Garrard, he had no time in the pocket, but he still has to make plays.

While McCown was getting his first bits of game time with the first team offense, Blaine Gabbert was also breaking down a barrier for the first time. Tonight was the first time he looked like a quarterback with poise and control, but again, he was playing with and against 2nd and 3rd team players.

The Return of Superman

Written by John McGrath on .

l

Finally, we get to see what we've all been waiting for.  The return of the franchise player.  The return of Superman. The return of one Maurice Jones-Drew.  Tonight we get to see him run, catch & hopefully score some TDs.  We will witness his herculean ability to break tackles.  His ability to outrun defenders en route to the endzone.  His ability to juke linebackers right out of their shoes or run right over cornerbacks & safeties.  All will witness his undeniable talent for making the Jaguars a much better team & for giving defensive coordinators across the NFL nightmares as they try to figure out how to stop him.  They will fail.

5 Things to Watch in the Jaguars Pre-Season Finale Against the Rams

Written by Shane Clemons on .

Aaron_Kampman_2

The Jacksonville Jaguars play host to the St. Louis Rams tonight in their pre-season finale. The Jaguars will likely play most of their healthy starters for a longer period than we've seen in years past. Mostly, I think it's a measure to continue to get the team up to speed, but it also may be a way of getting both David Garrard and Blaine Gabbert into the game with the first team defense. This game has more to watch than most pre-season finales do, and that's not the only bit of good news. The NFL regular season is just 7 days away.

Fred Taylor to Retire Tomorrow as a Member Jacksonville Jaguars

Written by Shane Clemons on .

Great player, great guy. I'm glad he'll retire as a Jaguar. This from Tania Ganguli:

"A Jaguars legend will come home tomorrow to retire as a Jaguar.

The Jaguars will ceremonially sign former running back Fred Taylor tomorrow so he can retire with the team that drafted him. The Jaguars will begin making cuts tomorrow, which will allow them space on the roster to make the move. The team must reduce its roster to 53 players by Saturday."
