Colts Fans are Abandoning Ship

Written by Shane Clemons on .

Every team that's ever experienced long streaks of winning seasons have fans like this. Spoiled fans are the result of such streaks, and this article is exactly what I'm talking about. It should also make you feel better about the Jaguars' season.

"Fans pay money they don't always have for a winning product. And, as we have consistently been told by the owner, the front office, and the coaches for years, the expectations in Indy are for winning. Nothing else. This isn't Detroit, Houston, Tampa Bay, or Jacksonville, where fan expectations are measured in the team not sucking as much as fans think it will.

In Indy, expectations are for greatness. That's what we're all paying for, at least.

Coming into this year, the expectations weren't for Andrew Luck in 2012. I understand that Peyton's injury was not planned for, but part of the reason fans are mad is because it probably should have been planned for.

I guess my point in this rant is to say that we, as fans, have been conditioned and encouraged to have high expectations. When those expectations aren't met, when they fall so short that it seems laughable to have had them in the first place, I don't think it's correct to blame the fans for having those expectations, or to dismiss them as not being 'realistic.' Once you start doing that, it just alienates them further, breeding more resentment.

Again, fans pay for winning football. When they don't get it, teams and owners shouldn't expect fans to show up. It's just that simple. Nothing personal, mind you.

Just business."

Since the writer is probably from Indiana, my home state, I feel obligated to tell you that I know plenty of intelligent Hoosiers that aren't pieces of crap. Most, in fact, are good people, but this article just makes me shake my head.

Are we there yet?

Honestly, no we're not.  Not yet anyway.  Now is NOT the time to throw McCown under the bus.  Yes he threw 4 INTs, but he deserves a chance to redeem himself.  After all, we gave David Garrard 4 years of chances right.  Luke McCown will start again and will play better.  Yes, Blaine Gabbert is the future of this team.  We all know it.  McCown knows it.  But the future can wait a few more games at least.  Many people will point out the McCown went 6 of 19 for 59 yards with 4 INTs and no TDs while Gabbert went 5 of 6 for 52 yards with no INTs and no TDs.  They will say that Gabbert can give us the same effort as McCown without making any mistakes.  Wrong, Gabbert is still a rookie and will make rookie mistakes.  But do the Jaguars need to make a change at QB this soon?  Many fans will tell you that they would rather see the Jaguars struggle with Gabbert at the helm instead of watching McCown lead the team to a bad record.  They will also point out that other rookie Qbs are playing now & playing well.

The Jaguars Season Ruled Over

Written by Shane Clemons on .

The Jaguars have officially packed it in.

After much urging from fans across northern Florida, the Jacksonville Jaguars will not be playing any of their remaining games. A coach that spoke in anonymity said, "We've decided that being 1 game out of the division is just too much to come back from." When asked about the remaining 14 games he said, "Why bother? It's clear that we're a 4-12 team at best. With the money the team can save on airline expenses by not playing, we all can get new office chairs. It really is a win, win for the players and coaches."

Clearly the Jaguars' season fell apart Sunday. The Jets had their way with a team that had high hopes going into the 2011 campaign, but the season just hasn't panned out the way we had all hoped. The Jaguars' win over the Titans can only be described as a fluke, and the season is already lost.

The Jaguars have also expressed that they'd like the idea of drafting quarterback Andrew Luck with the first pick of the 2012 draft, saying, "Gabbert didn't play well enough against the Jets to get us the win and save our season. We have to move on when we realize it just isn't working, and that's what happened here."

The Jaguars will resume play in September of 2012.

Come on people. It's one game. Let's get real.

NOT HITTING THE PANIC BUTTON !

Written by John McGrath on .

WTFbutton

OMG, WTF JDR?  I'm not ready to hit the panic button and you shouldn't be either, but hitting the WTF button could, should and is being hit over & over with reckless abandon.  Are you kidding us Del Rio?  Is this the best you can game plan?  Are you freakin serious?  You don't deserve your job at all Jack.  I know that teams have bad games every now and then.  I know that QBs have games where they throw INTs? But your game planning and play calling is so damn predictable and boring.  Run, run, thrown lame slant route pass. Run, run, thrown short of the first down marker.  I was glad when Garrard was shown the door, but you are obviously the second part of that equation & your long overdue release is the key to my happiness.  I still like McCown and will root for him to succeed, but we all know that Blaine Gabbert is the future.  What is your major malfunction Jack?  Thomas is not a true # 1 receiver, your O-line is weak, you're afraid to use 2 TE or 5 WR sets, this is not a running league anymore (unless you actually have the lead & want to kill the clock) and your very, very vanilla offense is very, very offensive to watch.  Good coaches make the necessary adjustments when their team is struggling.  You need to stop, this mud puddle has been walked dry.

Jaguars Blown Out By Jets

Written by Shane Clemons on .

Simmer down everyone. This isn't the time to run to the hills, crying about the officiating, play at quarterback, or the coaching. This is a time to realize that the Jaguars aren't perfect, and there's a lot of work to do. Regardless of how the coaches are handling the loss, I would just like to ask them to NOT TOUCH THE PANIC BUTTON!

Luke_McCown_3

The Jaguars were bad. There's no doubt about it. That's why I'm not going to bother with talking about stats. It was ugly. Thank goodness Josh Scobee was there to get the Jaguars on the board.

I'm here to be the voice of reason. I hope that everyone won't take this as a sign that the Jaguars are as bad as everyone's been telling us. I simply refuse to believe that.

The Steelers bounced back very nicely against the Seahawks, and I see no reason that the Jaguars shouldn't do the same against the Panthers.

Now, let's tackle the next piece of business. Luke McCown is, and should be, the starting quarterback going forward. Sure, if this level of play persists for a couple of weeks, you have to pull the plug. The simple fact of the matter is that the Jets are one of the best defenses in the NFL. If the Panthers defense causes 4 interceptions, then we should worry, and I'll lead the 'let's worry' charge. Until then, stay rational.

The Jaguars played relatively well on defense. They allowed a couple of long drives, but many of the points they gave up were due to being put in awful situations. Again, let's postpone judgement on that unit until next week.

There's no doubt that the Jaguars weren't prepared for the Jets, and that's everyone's fault. Luke McCown was victimized heavily, but it's not all on his shoulders.

Let's all take a deep, deep breath. The Jaguars are 1-1, and they're probably going to wake up tomorrow tied for second in the division. They're also tied with the Steelers and the Ravens. 1-1 isn't the end of the world. If you're still depressed, read all about the Colts tomorrow. That's sure to make you happy.

5 Things: Jaguars Have to Stuff the Jets

Written by Shane Clemons on .

Today, the Jacksonville Jaguars square off against the New York Jets. There's a lot that the Jaguars will have to do to beat the Jets, but some of those things are far more important than others. That's what I'm here for. Let's get to business highlighting the 5 things the Jaguars must do to move to 2-0 on the season.

1) Thanksgiving in September
If there's one thing that the Jaguars absolutely have to do in this game, it's stuff the Jets like a Thanksgiving turkey. Mark Sanchez has a history of struggling in crunch time. That's the position the Jaguars want to push him into. This game needs to be on his shoulders. If the Jaguars stuff the Jets ground game, that's exactly where this game will end up.

2) Run MJD Run
Maurice Jones-Drew said that he wanted more carries, and in this important game, he should get just that. The Jaguars need to run the ball well to be able to pull out this game. Dominating time of possession isn't enough today. Runs need to end up in the end-zone. Remember the first drive from last week that ended in a 21 yard touchdown? That needs to happen 3 or 4 times this week.

3) Pressure Sanchez
Santonio Holmes may not play this week, and he's banged up at the very least. The Jaguars will need to generate a very good pass rush to force Sanchez to make mistakes. This offensive line is more physical than the Titans, and it'll be a huge challenge.

4) In McCown We Trust
Luke McCown showed that he can manage an offense to beat an inferior opponent, but he needs to do more to beat the Jets this weak. Make no mistake about it, the Jaguars will face some third and long situations. If they can convert a few of those, the Jaguars will be on their way to winning the game.

5) Win the Turnover Battle
The Jaguars were terrible last season in turnover differential. They'll need to win that battle today to win this game. The Jets prey on teams that make stupid decisions, and that's something that Luke McCown hasn't done to this point. Also, Jack Del Rio likes to go for it on 4th and short inside or around mid-field. The Jaguars better convert those situations today. Otherwise, the Jets will have great field position.

This game will be one of the most physical anyone sees all year (same goes for the Baltimore and Pittsburgh games). This type of game is my utmost favorite. It should be a hard-hitting, collision filled game, and I can't wait. It's a game the Jaguars can win, but the Jets are a very good team. Nothing will come easy today.

Luke "Balls Out" McCown

Written by John McGrath on .

Luke McCown is "ALL IN" as the Jaguars starting QB now that Garrard has been shown the door.  Luke makes good decisions & gets the "BALLS OUT" fast.  No more holding onto the ball forever and a day until the QB gets sacked.  No More staring down a receiver all the way through his route either.  Oh yeah, Luke can actually read a freakin defense too.  Del Rio just needs to turn him loose and crank the volume up to eleven.  Luke is a gunslinger, he can make all the throws and he can look through his receivers to find the open man.  McCown is also always looking down the field during games.  Something that "Drop Down" Dave never seemed to be able to master.  Del Rio finds it hard to unleash Luke & allow him to be all the QB he can be.  I don't like that, but I understand where Jack is coming from.
