The Return of Superman

Finally, we get to see what we've all been waiting for.  The return of the franchise player.  The return of Superman. The return of one Maurice Jones-Drew.  Tonight we get to see him run, catch & hopefully score some TDs.  We will witness his herculean ability to break tackles.  His ability to outrun defenders en route to the endzone.  His ability to juke linebackers right out of their shoes or run right over cornerbacks & safeties.  All will witness his undeniable talent for making the Jaguars a much better team & for giving defensive coordinators across the NFL nightmares as they try to figure out how to stop him.  They will fail.

5 Things to Watch in the Jaguars Pre-Season Finale Against the Rams

The Jacksonville Jaguars play host to the St. Louis Rams tonight in their pre-season finale. The Jaguars will likely play most of their healthy starters for a longer period than we've seen in years past. Mostly, I think it's a measure to continue to get the team up to speed, but it also may be a way of getting both David Garrard and Blaine Gabbert into the game with the first team defense. This game has more to watch than most pre-season finales do, and that's not the only bit of good news. The NFL regular season is just 7 days away.

Fred Taylor to Retire Tomorrow as a Member Jacksonville Jaguars

Great player, great guy. I'm glad he'll retire as a Jaguar. This from Tania Ganguli:

"A Jaguars legend will come home tomorrow to retire as a Jaguar.

The Jaguars will ceremonially sign former running back Fred Taylor tomorrow so he can retire with the team that drafted him. The Jaguars will begin making cuts tomorrow, which will allow them space on the roster to make the move. The team must reduce its roster to 53 players by Saturday."

Jaguars, Colts Rivalry Defines the AFC South

The AFC South is a young division with little long-ranging history. Sure, the Titans/Oilers and the Colts have long running histories, but they've rarely experienced big success in the Super Bowl era. At first look, one would think that the Titans would be a huge rival of Indianapolis, and the Jaguars would be rivals with the Texans. We all know that the Texans have been a thorn in the Jaguars' side since they came into the league. Or, perhaps the pesky Titans should be big rivals with the Jaguars. All that seems to make good sense, but the Jaguars and the Colts? That seems a little odd, but that's the way it is.

I asked 18to88.com's Nate Dunlevy via Twitter who Colts fans hated the most out of the teams in the AFC South, and this is what he said:

"Which AFC South team we hate the most? the Jags, no question about it. Not even close"

That's the type of statement that says, "I hate it when they beat us, but I love it when we beat their ass." And that my friends, is the definition of a rivalry.

Will the return of Kampman equal sacks?

Written by John McGrath on .

Arron Kampman will finally get some playing time  in a  preseason game against the Rams this Thursday.  Can he help generate some sacks?  I for one, think it will happen.  Kampman is a pro. he knows what is expected of him and he is relentless in achieving that goal.  The former pro-bowler DE should be just what the Jags need on defense.  He will provide that "adrenaline rush" that they seem to have been missing.  He makes everyone along the front four better.  He gets them jacked up & leads by example.  Kampman is a unstoppable force.  He cannot be stopped. they can only hope to contain him.  But containing him only allows Alualu, Knighton, & Roth to rip past the offensive line and get to the quarterback.  This is the true beauty of having Kampman in the lineup.  He simply creates mis-matches, confusion & chaos for the opposing team.

Del Rio's Humanitarian Side

Written by Shane Clemons on .

Whether you like him or want him fired, Jack Del Rio is a good guy:

"Their love for football might have brought them together, but their commitment to the human spirit was their real connection. Wilson has been trying to build up enough strength to get his big body moving, so he can go home before undergoing the transplant. Del Rio's visit can only inspire him.

Wilson being a top-notch veteran reporter and Del Rio being a top-notch veteran coach, they couldn't resist talking some football. Wilson had the energy to grill Del Rio about rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert and ex-Bills linebacker Paul Posluszny. You can take Wilson away from football, but you're never going to take football away from Wilson."

Jack Del Rio Could Have an Incentive to Cut David Garrard in Favor of Blaine Gabbert

We've been speculating for weeks if not months about the future of David Garrard as the Jacksonville Jaguars' starting quarterback. We all know that Blaine Gabbert isn't polished, but it's his team to lead at some point, whether it's sooner or later. We've also discussed on various forums, here and elsewhere, about which quarterback would be picked if the competition was virtually equal. Let's throw in one more wrinkle to the equation. Jack Del Rio may have an incentive to move on with Blaine Gabbert instead of David Garrard.
