Max Strauss just posted an interview with Leon Searcy Jr. He played in 63 games for the Jaguars from 1996 to 2000, starting all 63 games.

"Strauss : How did you start playing football?

Searcy : I played high school basketball. I never played football until my senior year. I was a stud on the basketball court. I was pretty good at basketball to be quite honest with you. It was my junior year, and I was playing a pickup basketball game. And, I remember dribbling to the basket, and I ended up dunking the ball. At the time, I was 6’4″, 275 pounds."

12:00 AM: As I write this, Blaine Gabbert is sitting on a 12-7 lead for the win. Victory formation is a beautiful set. The Jaguars will play the Texans next week in another make or break game. Jaguars win 12-7. Goodnight everyone!

11:11 PM: The Jaguars have pushed their advantage to 9-0. The big play of the 3rd quarter was a missed field goal by the Ravens. Really, the kick was never close. It was a Vanderjagt style shank from left going wide, wide right. The Jaguars were able to control the time of possession once again in the 3rd quarter, and if they keep it up for just one more quarter. It'll be a huge win for the struggling Jaguars. Once thing is clear. This team hasn't quit on Jack Del Rio.

10:22 PM: The Jaguars' defense, after the 2nd quarter, has still not allowed the Ravens to move the chains on offense. The big story of the game has been the ridiculous number of fumbles by both teams. Some of those, haven't actually been fumbles as three plays have been overturned by coaches' challenges. The Jaguars need their defense to get them turnovers, however. The Jags' offense seems incapable of moving the ball consistently. The 2nd half will be interesting to see if the Jaguars can continue their defensive domination. A noteworthy point is this. The Jaguars' defense hasn't had to be on the field much; so, they should still be pretty fresh in the 2nd half.

9:28 PM: The Jaguars defense is playing out of this world right now. No first downs allowed by that unit. The real painful play was the goal line fumble. The announcers said it. The Ravens are lucky to only be down by 3 after a quarter of play. So far, the Jaguars' offense has looked okay considering they're playing a great, great defense. Josh Scobee continues to be one of the bright spots on special teams, knocking through a 54 yard field goal. Solid first quarter for the Jaguars.

Well, the Jaguars take the field tonight in their first prime-time game of the 2011 NFL season against the Baltimore Ravens. The circumstances aren't what many of us had hoped. Frankly, this team should be 3-3, but the games the Jaguars should have won haven't panned out for them, and the result has been tough to watch.

Tonight's game has an interesting dynamic. The Jaguars, in my opinion, match up relatively well to the Ravens when the Ravens are on offense. I think the Jaguars' defense should be able to keep them in the game.

The Ravens' defense, however, will likely shut down the Jaguars' offense. That's why it's so important for the Jaguars to capitalize on each and every opportunity that presents itself. If they can do that, they might be able to surprise the Ravens and claim a big, big win.

Consecutive wins against the Ravens this week and the Texans next week could put the Jaguars back in contention going into their bye week. Consecutive losses could end with head coach Jack Del Rio receiving his pink slip.

In game updates may be added to the TOP of this article with a date. These will by no means be regular, but they may add to your experience as you watch the game. Hopefully, they'll be positive updates. And, as always, GO JAGS!

Today, I'm coming out with a "Thought Drop" style article. This is nothing in-depth, but I thought it'd be nice to get the week started with some observations as we move towards the Jaguars' Monday Night Football matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.

@Jaguars101 posed the question today on Twitter, "If Jaguars lose badly on Monday, how much does that expedite JDR's firing?" That got me thinking. Jack Del Rio could be in his final two weeks as the Jaguars' head coach. It's crazy to actually consider. Two consecutive wins could put the Jaguars right back in the divisional race heading into their bye week. Two more consecutive losses, and Jack Del Rio could very possibly, if not likely, be given his walking papers during the Jaguars' bye week. It's now or never for the Jaguars in 2011 in every sense of the phrase.

If it's true that misery loves company, then Jaguars fans should be hanging out with Colts fans. The Colts most recent defeat, a 62-7 loss to the Saints, stings more than any loss any team has suffered all season. The Colts were not only completely uncompetitive, but the players and coaches alike looked as if they expected it. There was no fight, no will to continue their cause. Did we see the Colts give up on national television? We'll see. Another thought is this. Could we see the same from the Jaguars tonight? I hope not.

My last thought is this; how much help do the Jaguars need this off-season. The Jaguars continue to generate little to no pass rush, they have a terrible group of receivers, and they can't block for the quarterback. There's a lot to be done for sure. We've been led to believe, and results have reinforced it, that the Jaguars have been getting ever closer to a break-through year. Jack Del Rio will likely be the first guy to take the fall, but is Gene Smith worth giving a new contract? Has he really done a great job building this roster? The whole punter situation is hard for me to swallow. I've always said there's a fine line between being cheap and being smart, and allowing your punter, Adam Podlesh, to walk seems more along the lines of cheap than smart. That's just some food for thought to keep you busy the rest of the day.

As I was looking through the records of the teams in the AFC South, I notice that the Jaguars are only 2 wins behind the division leading Titans. Unless I'm much mistaken, the AFC South's last victory is now three weeks in the past (last 2 weeks, AFC South is 0-7). Now, with a division like that, the Jaguars still have an opportunity to get back into the divisional race.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure a way for the Jaguars to get into the playoffs, and let me assure you, it is still very much within the realm of possibility. The Jaguars are 1-0 within the AFC South, and that's key, especially against the Titans and Texans. The Jaguars most important task will be to do exactly what the Raiders did last year. They need to be perfect within the division. You may laught at that notion, but the Texans are very banged up, and the Jaguars already took care of the Titans once. The Colts aren't a very intimidating team right now, but it's still possible that Manning could be back for their week 17 match-up.

The Jaguars will need to win at least 2 non-divisional games the rest of the way. Now for my quick math (Jaguars have 1 current win + 5 divisional wins needed + 2 non-divisional wins needed = 8-8). So, the Jaguars could legitimately win the division at 8-8 if everything lines up correctly for them. Keep hope guys, this season still, despite 5 straight losses, isn't lost just yet.

For weeks I have played the role of the optimistic blogger. It's a role that I feel I fill nicely. There's some guys that were ready to throw in the proverbial towel for the season after week 3, and there's been a lot of guys that have taken a very moderate road as it pertains to the Jaguars this season. I, by and large, have taken the optimistic route. That's why this article may shock and awe some of you. Don't worry, I'm still and optimistic person, but I refuse to give in to blind stupidity.

I also feel it's worthy to point out that this article is preventative medicine. I don't think that most of you are thinking that Mike Sims-Walker will change the Jaguars' fortunes this year. In fact, I'm guessing that his impact will be minimal through this season, and there's a strong chance that he'll be as inconsistent as ever. Regardless, as a fan, I'm glad he's back in Jacksonville. He still has upside, and he'll definitely have a chance to contribute from the get go.

Now, here's what we shouldn't expect from Mike Sims-Walker. He won't be a guy that will come in and gain 100+ receiving yards every game. He won't be hauling in 5-10 catches per game, most likely. He won't demand double coverage from anyone.

Here's what he will do for the Jaguars. Sims-Walker will help the Jaguars stretch the field vertically more than they have been able to, at least I think so. He'll be a great target on those quick slants that the Jaguars love so much. He'll provide another solid wide receiver target for Blaine Gabbert to throw at other than Mike Thomas. He may even provide enough security at WR for Mike Thomas to go back to handling punts, which would be a big help.

Now that we have put the return of Mike Sims-Walker back into a fair and stable context, we can go celebrate. Letting him go was a move that highly annoyed me, and I'm glad to see him return. He's not a blockbuster player, but he can, and likely will, help one of the league's worst receving corps.
