Don't jump the gun on crying 'Bust!'

"Justin Blackmon is a bust."

We've all started hearing it. Some analysts, writers and bloggers are beginning to wonder what has happened to Blackmon.

In the preseason, Blackmon established himself as a reliable target for second year quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who is also dealing with a "bust" label.

The primary issue to consider is that rookies are new to the speed of the NFL. Some rookies take a year or even more to adjust to the game. Some can jump right in and get themselves up to speed instantly.

My point here is that we can't judge rookies yet, or even by the end of the year in most cases. Justin Blackmon may be getting frustrated, and that's just part of growing into his role on the team. Yes, he's had a very, very slow start, but there's still plenty of time to turn things around, and that goes for the entire team.

It's only week 4 of the NFL season. Let's keep things in perspective.
