The fourth and final preseason game has finally arrived, as the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1) will host the Atlanta Falcons (1-2) tonight at Everbank Field. While the final preseason game is the least exciting of the four, as most starters don’t even take the field, it’s important for those who are fighting for a roster spot. The regular season kicks off next weekend when the Jaguars head to Minnesota to play the Vikings, so don’t except the starters to see much action tonight.
One key battle to watch will be between Quarterbacks Chad Henne and Jordan Palmer. It’s unlikely that the Jaguars decide to head into the regular season with three Quarterbacks on the roster, so Palmer will really have to make his case in tonight’s game against Atlanta. Not only that, but in all likelihood, Chad Henne, who the Jaguars signed in free agency this past March, will have to have another bad game for the team to consider the change. Palmer, who led the Jaguars on late fourth-quarter drives that resulted in victories against both the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints, may make this a tough decision for the team tonight if he can keep up his play, and Henne continues to falter.
Speaking of Quarterbacks, former Jaguars player Luke McCown, who recently signed with the Falcons after being released by the Saints, returns to Jacksonville tonight, so expect to see an interception or two. Most importantly of of all, however, is that the Jaguars don’t suffer any more injuries in the preseason, especially to the offensive and defensive lines, which have already been decimated by injuries to this point.
Tonight is the final shot for some players, to prove that they're deserving of a spot on the 53-man roster in Jacksonville. Kickoff tonight is set for 6:30 pm EST from Everbank Field in Jacksonville. Next Sunday, the Jaguars will travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings in the regular season opener.
