Today, the Jacksonville Jaguars square off against the New York Jets. There's a lot that the Jaguars will have to do to beat the Jets, but some of those things are far more important than others. That's what I'm here for. Let's get to business highlighting the 5 things the Jaguars must do to move to 2-0 on the season.
1) Thanksgiving in September
If there's one thing that the Jaguars absolutely have to do in this game, it's stuff the Jets like a Thanksgiving turkey. Mark Sanchez has a history of struggling in crunch time. That's the position the Jaguars want to push him into. This game needs to be on his shoulders. If the Jaguars stuff the Jets ground game, that's exactly where this game will end up.
2) Run MJD Run
Maurice Jones-Drew said that he wanted more carries, and in this important game, he should get just that. The Jaguars need to run the ball well to be able to pull out this game. Dominating time of possession isn't enough today. Runs need to end up in the end-zone. Remember the first drive from last week that ended in a 21 yard touchdown? That needs to happen 3 or 4 times this week.
3) Pressure Sanchez
Santonio Holmes may not play this week, and he's banged up at the very least. The Jaguars will need to generate a very good pass rush to force Sanchez to make mistakes. This offensive line is more physical than the Titans, and it'll be a huge challenge.
4) In McCown We Trust
Luke McCown showed that he can manage an offense to beat an inferior opponent, but he needs to do more to beat the Jets this weak. Make no mistake about it, the Jaguars will face some third and long situations. If they can convert a few of those, the Jaguars will be on their way to winning the game.
5) Win the Turnover Battle
The Jaguars were terrible last season in turnover differential. They'll need to win that battle today to win this game. The Jets prey on teams that make stupid decisions, and that's something that Luke McCown hasn't done to this point. Also, Jack Del Rio likes to go for it on 4th and short inside or around mid-field. The Jaguars better convert those situations today. Otherwise, the Jets will have great field position.
This game will be one of the most physical anyone sees all year (same goes for the Baltimore and Pittsburgh games). This type of game is my utmost favorite. It should be a hard-hitting, collision filled game, and I can't wait. It's a game the Jaguars can win, but the Jets are a very good team. Nothing will come easy today.
