|Blaine Gabbert, shown above, effectively shut me up Sunday with a great performance in Jacksonville against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.|
It figures that Blaine Gabbert would put this blogger in his place less than a week after I floated the question of whether the Jaguars should draft a QB again with their 1st round pick in 2012. I'll admit when I jumped the gun on something, and it appears that Blaine Gabbert is indeed showing the progression that I said was lacking.
Here's what I saw on Sunday. I saw a young quarterback make a few bad decisions. That's not in question, but I saw a lot more positives. I saw Blaine Gabbert stepping up in the pocket, despite pressure in his area. I saw a guy moving from read to read. I saw a guy check the ball down as a second, third, or fourth option, not his primary read.
So, this is me saying to all of my readers, and on the off chance that Blaine Gabbert actually reads this, I was wrong. We need to show far more patience than I have shown recently. Blaine Gabbert is indeed growing, and I was wrong to suggest otherwise.
What is it about a three and nine (eight, seven ,six, five) that makes us all over react and loose our dang minds. Oh, yeah I remember now. They all SUCK!
Blaine will be a very good,if not elite, QB in the NFL. He just needs better coaching, WRs & more time. This game against the Buccs clearly shows that his talent & ability should not be in question. How many times has he thrown to a WR or TE & put the ball right on the numbers only to have it dropped? Blaine can't catch his own passes. Granted he has thrown some ugly passes too, but he needs better weapons around him.
@ratmfoo Granted, but considering the progression shown and my previous statements on his performances, I feel "great" about it.
